PARIS, OCTOBER 15, 2016: (DGW) In a bid to become less dependent on the restive oil-rich Niger Delta, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, (NNPC), in line with President Muhammadu Buhari earlier directive has redoubled efforts to find oil in the north especially in the Nigeria's portion of the vast Chad Basin.
The NNPC in conjunction with a Chinese company, Bureau for Geophysical Corporation have pitched tents with Alkari, Darazo, Misau in Bauchi State to commence the drilling of oil wells in the region.
Dr. Maikanti Baru, the Group Managing Director of the NNPC made the disclosure during a working visit to Bauchi State Governor, Mohammed Abubakar. While speaking in Bauchi, the NNPC boss reminded his chief host and other government officials that oil exploration activities first started in the region in 1974.
